History

The University of Rijeka (UNIRI) is an educational and research higher education institution in the western part of Croatia. Founded in 1973, the University of Rijeka has 16 consituentes: an academy of applied arts, 10 faculties and 4 university departments, with over 161 study programmes. UNIRI is the first University in Croatia to have signed the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recuitment of Researchers, thereby accepting the European Commission’s initiative aiming to incrase employability and to promote research careers as vital elements in the strategy for economic growth, employment, and setting up the European Reserach Area (ERA)

The University of Rijeka was the first to sign the European Commision’s Charter for participation in the “Group for Human Resources Strategy Implementation”. It focuses on excellence, quality assurance, lifelong learning (LLL), active collaboration with local community and economy and active inclusion into the EHEA & ERA. Since 2019, UNIRI is the member of the Erasmus+ European Universities Initiative called Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE).

Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality management
(UNIRI FTHM)

The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management (UNIRI FTHM) located in Opatija is a legal entitiy within the University of Rijeka, consisting of 7 institutes and performin study programmes from undergraduated to doctoral studies and Life Long Learning programmes. UNIRI FTHM employs 103 employees, 77 of which participate in the educational process.

About FTHM

The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management is Croatia’s only university institution which conducts study programs in the field of tourism, hospitality and sustaniable development on 2 undergraduate, 4 graduate and 4 doctoral level, as well as through a series of lifelong learning programs. The Faculty has established creative partnerships with private sector and civil society in order to respond to economic and social challenges with science-based solutions. As a part of th study programs, the Faculty offers courses in foreign languages, especially in English, and works continually on the strengthening of the international cooperation and on increasing student and teaching staff mobility.

Professors

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR JOSIPA CVELIĆ-BONIFAČIĆ, PHD

is the CAMPMASTER Project Coordinator and President of Stearing Commitee. She combines an increasingly intense academic career as Assistant Professor at UNIRI FTHM with an established career as a manager in the tourism business sector. She was CEO in different hospitality companies with over 200 employees and today is Quality manager for 15 campsites in Valamar Riviera – the largest hospitality company in Croatia. She received her M.Sc. (2003) and her PhD (2012) at the University of Rijeka, UNIRI FTHM by developing her own theory of camping management, a previously neglected aspect of tourism management. Her fields of scientific interest continue to be management of camping resorts, glamping and trends in the development of camping resorts. She published more than 20 scientific papers and many professional papers, connected with different camping management research projects. She was part of different teams in numerous projects connected with camping resort research or development, ultimately focusing on connecting theory with practice and working with the camping industry on increasing the competitiveness of the camping tourism offer in Croatia. At UNIRI FTHM, she is a member of the team working on Benchmarking in the camping industry. She is the founder, the main organiser and a lecturer at the lifelong learning programme Management of camping resorts that in the four years of its existence successfully trained more than 150 managers from Croatia and Slovenia.

PROFESSOR SANDRA JANKOVIĆ, PHD

is the CAMPMASTER Financial Head Officer and Member of Stearing Commitee. She received her PhD in Economics from the Vienna University of Economics and Business (2001), M.Sc. (1997) and B.S (1993) from the University of Rijeka, UNIRI FTHM. She has twenty years of experience in accounting education in Croatia and abroad and teaches Managerial Accounting, SME Accounting, Cost Accounting and Revenue Management. She is the author and co-author of more than 60 scientific and professional papers and had participated in numerous scientific and professional projects. Currently she is the assistant dean for International Studies, co-editor in chief of the scientific journal Tourism and Hospitality Management and leader of the projects Benchmarking in the hospitality industry and Benchmarking in the camping industry.

PROFESSOR MARINA LAŠKARIN AŽIĆ, PHD

is the CAMPMASTER Student Coordinator. She works as an assistant professor at the UNIRI FTHM. Her research career in managing guest relations started by successfully defending her PhD. thesis under the topic “Managing guest satisfaction in the hotel industry using a loyalty programme”. Apart from scientific research, she is also the author and co-author of several books for students in tourism and hospitality management, such as Managing Guest Relations, Principles and Practices in Tourism and Hospitality Business, and others. Her field of research and teaching skills are recognized among practitioners and she is often invited as a lecturer in lifelong learning programmes for hoteliers, camp managers and home renters.

PROFESSOR ANA-MARIJA VRTODUŠIĆ HRGOVIĆ, PHD

is the CAMPMASTER Quality Controller. She is an associate professor at the Department for Quality and Controlling. In 2010, she received her PhD and in 2003 M.Sc.in Economics (University of Rijeka, UNIRI FTHM). Her field of research is Quality Management in Tourism and Hospitality. During her career, she published more than 40 scientific and professional papers and actively participated in several scientific and professional projects (the last one entitled “Glamping – a factor of campsite quality”). Currently she is leading a scientific project entitled “Focus on quality in household accommodation – the guest perspective”. She successfully integrates theoretical knowledge and practical experience as a member of the internal auditor team for ISO 9001 (Association of Croatian Travel Agencies) and Travelife auditor for hotels and travel agencies.
